« Part 5: Working on that top Part 6 of A Shaker Style Table, 2022 version series Part 7: Tenons next »

Ok…Top is back out of the clamps…needs the glue joints cleaned and leveled up..

Areas with the big dried glue lines got sanded down….other high spot got the No. 6c treatment…on both faces.

Once the underside was reasonably flat and smooth….added a little something extra….

Seems I do have a Branding iron, to mark my Projects with….takes a while to heat the BIG brass up…

Comes in it’s own fancy box, too..

Once that is done, and put away when cold…back to the top….a rattle can was used to trace a curve on the corners, Then a vintage Sabre Saw was used…

Then swing things around, and do the other 2 corners…beltsand the curves smooth…

I also wanted to try out where the legs will be going to sit..

And mark that location…

Then used the combo square to do the same marks at the other 3 corners…then mark for a 1/2” long tenon…then measure between those marks…..~16-3/4” length. for the 3 aprons…which needed to be cut to rough length, both edges squared up ( to remove the waves…)and then cut square again at the required final length….

A 4th one for the drawer front, while I was at it… apron will get labeled as “Back”...there are two that look alike, those will be the “Side” aprons….then the 4th will provide the drawer front….it will need a bit more work..

Need to fix one corner of the top..

Thinking MAYBE run that champfering bit around….? Top is 7/8” thick, so maybe that will “lighten” the way the top looks….trying to avoid any Non-Shaker “frills” like beads and coves…

Next up? Three aprons need tenons milled, and then mortises need chopped to house the tenons….I’ll get the 3 sides all fitted up ( no glue, yet) and then work on a way for the drawer to slide in and out…..and then build that drawer…..and shop for a “Shaker” Drawer Pull/knob…..

Stay tuned…
