I guess to be considered “Shaker Style”....legs need to have tapers done…so
Lay out a cut line.
Trying for a 1” square foot….then line up with the stop line at the top…Next…remove the waste.
Norm Abram made a jig for his tablesaw….older way was with a powered jointer…still older would be to use a hand plane, start at the foot, and work back towards the top…..
I don’t have the jig anymore, and do not have a jointer with a cord….too much Cardio just using a plane…so
I do have a bandsaw…mainly to remove the bulk of the waste…Then it is time for a plane..
Just to remove the saw marks….when those are are gone..
I can rotate and plane the other taper…when both are done…no sanding is required
Need to keep track of what has a taper…
A “T” at the top works. I also used one of the cut-offs, to help lay out the tapers…4 legs means 8 tapers needed to be done…all to the “inside” of the legs…
Usual sequence…layout one taper, bandsaw that, layout the other taper, bandsaw that…then plane both smooth, then do the next leg….about 10-15 minutes each leg…
Legs are now tapered, awaiting mortises to house 3 aprons…the drawer opening will be a little different…
Later today…will work on that table top….needs trimmed up, tongues milled to house the bread board ends…and make the bread boards….aiming for a 20” x 20” square top, counting the Bread Boards….
Stay tuned…
