« Part 10: Drawerbuilder , part 2 Part 11 of Red Oak Leftovers, desktop organizer series no next part

Clamps came off, today…nothing flew apart….always a good sign. There was an issue, with the back of the drawer..

2 square holes, where the groove for the bottom panel is showing through….Although this IS the back of a drawer, decided to cut a couple Rosewood plugs to fit….and see how that fixes things..

What holes? Drawer front got a light pass or two from a smooth plane. Ends didn’t look too bad…

Just gave them a sanding. sanded the top and bottom edges a bit…doing a test fit to see how well the drawer slide in.

There was a question…whether to use 2 knobs..

Thinking this was a bit much..went with a single knob. Straight edge across the diagonals, to find the center of the drawer front. Used an Awl to make a starter hole…someplace for the tip of the bit to find…

The tip of a #4 bit (called a Snail) and a cordless drill to drive it along. Didn’t have to drill the full 1/2” thickness of the front…just enough for the tenon on the knob to fit all the way in…Dab of glue and a c clamp..

Clamp it, Jed. Let this sit a few minutes. Had Shellac to get ready….

Got most of the box done with a coat of Amber Shellac….by that time the drawer was ready for it’s coat..

Couple runners under the box….used those to move the box around, too…Front view?

Drawer does fit nicely…end view?

A look around in back..

Counting the bottom and lid panels, this is only 5” tall….
Decided to open things up a bit, and let it air out a bit..

First coat was rubbed down this evening, with some 0000 steel wool….then a second coat was brushed on…will check on things tomorrow, and see IF it needs a 3rd coat….

Stay tuned, almost time to post as a project….
