Ok, since the last sessions…box was glued up…
Almost equal parts glue, cauls, clamps, and cussing ( clamps wanted to move a bit, when I tightened them up)
Cauls to spread the pressure a bit, just missing sitting on the fingers…the box’s, not mine….Long sides wanted to bow in a bit. Cut a spacer block to spread the sides out a bit…
Let this sit a day or two…before the clamps came back off..
And the spacer block removed….Sides were then planed and sanded smooth, gaps filled in,,,corners got a slight round-over…then the bottom needed to be flattened a bit…
Grain going 4 directions at once, made things a bit…tricky…then flip over, and level the rim…
All through this process, I kept checking with a square, so things came out square…Set this aside, for now…
Lid also came out of the clamps…glue lines needed planed flat, on both faces…final size was trimmed…then over to the bandsaw…
Cut 2 finger lifts (may get changed?), with a flat area for the latch to sit in…also dug out some matching hinges..
That will need a little work….couple holes entirely miss the area they need to be in…too close to the top edge of the box.
Next exciting episode? Hardware install, a few nails….and the first coat of poly….and..maybe start on a lift out tray?
Stay tuned…

It’s turning out to be a great box. The hardware looks nice too. Aromatic red cedar has always been one of my favorite woods to work with. I look forward to the next episode!
