Ok…after a 3hr+ session in the shop, Friday….

Corners #3 and #4 are done..same steps as before, timed as 45 minutes per corner…getting slow in me old age?

Had the plywood panel already cut ( to match the other one) so..layed in on top of Box #2

And try to get it at least half way centered. Then trace around it. Goal is to get a plane set up to mill some rebates for this plywood panel to sit in, flush with the top of the edges…a “Flat Bottomed Box?”

Yep, this one…going to help build it’s new home…”Habitat for Planes”?

Once the plane was set up ( took a bit) and that first pass taken….discovered that the leg vise needed a helper..at least for the longer sides…a small block was added to help support the far end…then back to making curlies…

After a while…the floor had a decided “Crunch” to it..

Was a busy day. Each time I got close…I stopped to check out HOW close I was…

I think that will do….always seem to finish the far end, before the start end gets done…running “downhill”?

Dry fits next…both to see how square the box will be..

Hmm, close…and to see how well the bottom fit fit, once the clamps are done..

I can always slide the panel a hair, if needed…

Flip this mess over, and see how much that Pine panel will need to be trimmed..

Ripped for width, and crosscut for length. Now have THAT done (Tablesaw)...Had some Brass corners to install on Box No.1…..have 4 holes to cover up…

Kind of hard to just plug, as they will still stand out…like 4 sore thumbs..so…

Brass corner protectors…”The Great Cover-up”? One screw on each side, plus one coming up from below…will cover that hole (doesn’t show on the inside..) and helps hold the plywood bottom in place…instead of just nailing it off….Dresses thing up a bit, too.

My back, right between the shoulder blades, informed me that is was “Quitting Time!” Swept the floor, and closed up for the day…was working way too hard for a Friday, anyway…

Later today? Might mill the gooves for that Pine panel to sit in, and run rebates around the panel so it will fit the grooves…we’ll see…Start time on Friday was 10:30 am….Quitting Time was 3:45pm….been a LONG time since shoptime took THAT long….

Stay tuned…
