« Part 4: try herding cats? Part 5 of Fancy Corners, for a box series Part 6: Started on the hinges, at least »

The more I looked at that lid…the less I liked it. Even a coat of stain didn’t help all that much..

Giving off “Casket” vibes….did NOT really fit the rebates , either…

In the Dungeon Shop, we try to be “Mistake-free” so, any mistakes are very soon headed to the Fire Pit…Lid was too thick, rebates weren’t right…removed both…rebates took a couple passes, being stubborn?

And a second try…

Was taking a blade with at a time. Even removed the way too big beveled edges….will start over.

Resawn Ash was cut to almost the right size….made into a one strip was too narrow…

Let that sit a day, or so…clamps came off ( SLOWLY…) this evening…panel needed a little work..

Millers Falls No. 15 Jumbo Jack seemed to be available….got fairly close to flat…

Squared the ends a bit better….

Found some better hinges to use. Decided a small bevel around the top of the box might work….trimmed the panel to fit the bevels….corners needed a miter..

To better show off the spline’s beads….had a couple high spots….only way to remove those?

Millers Falls No. 9 smoother…

Knee said it was time to stop….went back upstairs, try again tomorrow….

Stay tuned…
