« Part 2: Working from the tablesaw Part 3 of Fancy Corners, for a box series Part 4: try herding cats? »

To connect those fancy corners, I need to mill the splines…..would be nice IF Stanley had made such a cutter…but, to make something like this..

Just not happening….however…IF I joint an edge first…

Get a decent edge to a board…then run the Stanley 45 along that edge….

With a #23 bead cutter. Flat spot is because it is a bit low on this end…Plough until the cutter stops cutting…should be a decent half bead…then lay the board flat…

And make a fully rounded, almost rope like bead…I had thought about setting up the other, older Stanley 45 to rebate away some of the waste….didn’t quite work out….so..tablesaw, to make a BUNCH of cuts. Good news? Use a long enough blank, and I can get quite a few splines from ONE board…just cut to length..

Save one other short pieces as a pattern…hopefully one of the better ones….test for fit in a corner joint…

One leg was a bit too skinny…corrected with the next ones…have to watch that I don’t make them so fat, that they won’t fit IN the groove.

have enough done for 4 splines…and a couple “patterns”..just in case…Now..I need to switch out the Stanley 45, and make some groove things…

All the sides were set out, in the order they need to be, for the grain to flow around….then decide on the Bottom, and mark that as “B”......Top just gets a rebate. Jig to hold the parts while I made the grooves to house a plywood floorboard….1/4” cutter, marked with a “T” ( Tongue?)

That was a LOT of shoving a plane….knee was starting to complain….so, quitting time!

Next episode? Rebate to mill,,,,basically two rip cuts over on the tablesaw. Then try a glue up?

Stay tuned…

Pretty sure I’ll end up stealing that idea for a corner at some point. And when I do, I’ll probably make a lifetime supply of that corner profile at once.
