« Part 15: Plan B? Maybe... Part 16 of A Project for August, Tool Chest series Part 17: Almost done... »

Ok…getting caught up…Thursday was a wasted day….Friday was errands and yard sales…this morning? Before setting out on the road…got a few things done..

The sides meet the lid with a bevel…router bit got close…needed the WR #62 to adjust the bevel to meet up with the lid…once THAT was done…then the Piano hinge was surfaced mounted ..

And..the lid opens nicely!

Then the entire outside, other than the plywood back, was given a coat of stain…

BTW..I had to clean off the bench, and move the case OFF the top of the dryer, and on to the bench..
Then after a wiped down of the stain…handles were installed on the sides of the I can carry this big box around better..

There were 2 Rosewood plugs…that needed a chisel to be trimmed down flush..

And. of course, the stain turned them black.

There was a knob to install in the lid, and two lockable latches…

let this sit most of the day..came back, sanded the dried glue white spots to bare wood…and a second coat of stain were needed…and wiped down to try and even things out a bit…the gave the outside a coat of Amber Shellac…

Letting this sit awhile…and see how it turns out. Lid looks shiny, at least…

Stay tuned…

Coming along nicely. Too bad that piano hinge was too big to mortise. Looking good tho. Do the drawers lock when the lid is closed? If not, you may want to move the carry handles towards the front so it naturally tips back instead of forward. Heavy tools tend to migrate forward so a centerline handle can get tippy if the load shifts. Nice handles.

Planning on a locking bar…that runs down the front of the way of the handles..with the pad lock at the top.

May keep a saw or two in the underside of the lid…to where when you open the lid, to access a saw…
