« Part 14: The Sunday Funnies? Part 15 of A Project for August, Tool Chest series Part 16: Lid attached, other hardware, and a PIP? »

Chapter should be titled “The Lid”

Not much of anything went right….the plan to use a router to mill a tongue around all 4 edges of the panel?

Looked good on paper…but only IF the panel is square to begin with…the 4 skirt boards?

How. after squaring up the panel and needing the long skirt to fit the new size…and NOT cut them…do they turn out to be 1/2” too short? To the point I had to go back and make two new long skirt boards from scratch….

Wasn’t just milling grooves..it was also thinning the board down to 3/4” thick from 7/8” thick. plane to remove the burn marks and saw marks

Then using the short scrap as a pattern to cut a tenon on the ends ….one the actually FIT the grooves on the ends…
Then another dry fit…..more adjusting….finally was close enough, that glue and clamps could take over…the last drops of glue in that bottle, BTW..

Let this sit a day….needed supplies, since today was Payday. Came back later, removed the clamps…then beltsanded, planed, palmsanded, and run a scraper around.

Work on a couple gaps..

That be a tenon sitting in a groove as the glue joint…
The top edge of the case, gets a bevel milled…

Lid is a tad smaller than the case….IF I add any to the lid to make up the difference, lid will start to get too heavy..
So…Lid hardware has been chosen..

Knob matches the drawer pulls.

So..why is that top drawer sitting open? Notice the 2 clamps?

Well there WAS a square hole there…since filled in with a Rosewood plug. Clamps to hold the plugs in place, while the glue dries…then I’ll trim them flush….two counter-bored holes at the bottom of case, will get either Rosewood OR Ash plugs…

Almost time for a coat of stain…

Stay tuned..

When I can get changed out of these “Sunday go to meeting” clothes, and back into work clothes…I’ll see what I can get done.

Stay tuned…
