« Part 9: Drawer Build 103, Tuesday was a better day Part 10 of A Project for August, Tool Chest series Part 11: Thursday in the shop, a dovetail tutorial.... »

Needed to sharpen a few items, too….spurs on the Stanley 45 were bad..
.
This one needed sharpened up….the other one?

Only reached to be flush with the edge of the skate….replaced it with a spare from the Stanley 45’s case…and sharpened one of the un-sharpened lobes….NOW the plane can score 2 lines across, so I can plough a dado, or two..

One other item needing work…I have a WR #62…was getting DULL, area under the blade had filled up with “debris”, decided to tear it down, clean it out…..back of the iron was out of “flat”..fixed that. Edge was all chewed up..sharpened that back up at 25 degrees like the factory edge USED to be….just a single, simple bevel…honed..Test drive?

On the wood it used to just tear out on…used the plane as a jointer..

Ok..back to drawer building…Front needed a groove milled

Front also had “issues”...made ploughing the groove..interesting..

“Sharp” fixes all. dados and grooves for the 2 sides…

See above for the dados…there was an issue with the other side..

That there is a split trying to grow here….can’t do a dovetail on this end, so..

Dado, and add 2 screws later…Back: Hauled the plank to the shop..Cut a blank for length (roughly) and the ripped for width….thickness? Tablesaw can’t reach that far up….left a 1/4” wide ribbon down the middle..I don’t trust the bandsaw for this sort of thing, so…

Disston D8, 5-1/2ppi, 28” long, thumbhole handle…and yes, I used both hands in that handle…just followed the tablesaw’s kerf…couple minutes later..had the back…needed to plane the rough stuff smooth..

One side, the front and the back…checked the back for fit into the dados..

yep..had to bevel the ends a bit…rather than just force things to fit…stash all 4 drawer parts away..while I go out and buy a 2’ x 2’ plywood panel to make the bottom with. Also needed to do the dovetails…but..Boss was on a shopping trip…and a Thunderstorm came through..BIG one…

Water running through, right where I need to stand….wait a while for the creek to lower….

Drawer so far fit nicely…to the point I need to dig them back out…..decided to plane the fronts a bit..

As one was trying to cup a bit….find the center of the drawer front…and the center of the handle..between the bolts…mark the locations for the bolts…drill the mounting holes….repeat two more times?

I’ll get #3 later today…

IF the floor has dried up enough..I’ll work on dovetails for #4…will see how things go..

Stay tuned…
