So….panels are now out of the clamps….? Not exactly, but..

First they will need a bit of trim work…square the ends, too. Handsaw? No…Unless this counts as such..

A Vintage saw?

6” version. Needs a way to guide it along, too…..rip fence from the tablesaw can also be used for other chores..

I mark the cut line first, then use the saw’s foot plate to mark the distance between the blade and the edge of the plate…square that line across…as long as I keep pressure on the saw to run against the fence…I get a nice straight cut…even if the amount cut off is a bit thin…

Got panel #1 done on both ends, used that to lay out cut lines on Panel #2

As it would be nice if they matched each other….Clamps done? Needed them again…to plane the panels flat..

And smooth…at least enough to do lay-outs on..

And decide which will be the “inside” or the outside of the panels….and maybe top, bottom, front, and back…

Set the panels aside for a bit…ok, an hour or two…and run the tablesaw. 3 planks needed cut down….to make parts for the webframes, and something for the drawers to ride on….

Start off with 1-1/2” wide strips…some needed a better edge…

Mainly for drawer dividers, and runners….thinking 7/8” was a might too thick, resaw to 9/16”..

Or at least try to get them there….Made enough, I hope for the front and back dividers, and the runners….except..

Down around the bottom of the chest..was thinking a thicker webframe will be needed…have to add a panel to enclose the bottom of the chest, after all…

Right now, these are 7/8” thick…intend to thin them down a bit…to 3/4” . Run a 1/4” groove around on the insides…and lay in all the 1/4” thick scraps from thinning the rest. Got a nice supply, too.

Top of the chest? Will have a compartment….means I cut 2 parts at 3” wide….no need for runners here..

They will need a rebate along the bottom edges…to house a 1/4” plywood bottom….and for the 1/4” plywood back.

Spaced out for a few drawers…

I THINK 5 drawers should be enough…have to be able to carry the dang thing when done…

Stay tuned….0530 on a Sunday Morn? The Single Brain Cell Sketch Up decided THAT was the time to resolve how to join the top and bottom parts to the panels….maybe I should get out the pencil and paper, and do a paper plan…sometime?
