« Part 6: Clamps removed, panel cleaned up, slips installed Part 7 of July, Frame & Panel Box Project series Part 8: Lid attached, started on a finish (no stain, this time..) »

Ok..Removed the clamps holding the slips in place….grab a piece of 1/4” plywood ( 5mm? Luann?) make 2 marks…one for length, one for width…then connect the 2 with a framer’s square…then over to the bandsaw..

Not only follow the straight lines….I was even splitting them!...then a test fit into the box…

Oooooh, we got lucky…Pop this back out, bead of glue brushed around on the slips…and set the panel down into the glue…but, I need to keep it there….

How about a wood block to act as a caul…and a clamp from under the box, around the outside, and press down on the block….let this sit a day or 2….

Lid…Going to be a long story….Stiles already have their grooves done…reset the “jig” to do the rails..

added that block behind the jig…rails are a bit longer, after all…Not sure what setting was on the cutter..

But it was taking a LOT of shavings just to go 5/16” deep…changed that setting for the second rail…quickly..

Checked the fit of the beveled edge..

This part was fine…needed to recheck the panel for length and width…

Length was close….shoot the end grain a bit…stiles fit where they need to…width?

Took a couple tries to get the good….each time, I had to plane off an edge…

Then re-bevel the edge..

I think I may have worn these two out….as they were laying down on the job..

Next? Need Tenons milled…

Tenons to fit the grooves…mainly cut on the bandsaw,,,cleaned up with a chisel…dry fitted to see if it will match the top of the box…..Hmmm, clamps are in the way…so..Glue brushed onto the tenons, herd these 5 cats, er..PARTS to where a couple clamps could in theory be applied…

Needed a way to keep the joints closed up, and FLAT….cut a bunch of wooden squares, and grabbed a few c clamps..

Should do the trick…let this sit a day or so….box is sitting on the tablesaw…can’t use that….lid is taking up most of the “usable” space on my bench….Other than sweeping the floor….I guess I’m done, for a day,

Stay tuned…
