« Part 1: Start up Part 2 of July, Frame & Panel Box Project series Part 3: Out of the clamps, 2 sides get together »

Need to mill a few tenons…so the rails will fit into the stiles….and match the length of the panel..

Set this to the thickness of the panels, to help size the tenons..Wanted a snug, but not too snug fit…

Tried a dry fit….fine tuned a couple spots…then the glue up could commence ( herding of cats, comes to mind..)

Creaks a bit, but no “CRACKS”...must be a good sign? Let this sit a day…repeat for Side #2

Fitting the panel to the grooves…one rail needed planed a bit, too.

Wasn’t quite square, nor was the end…we have ways..

Stanley No. 9-1/2 as a shooting plane? then joint the edge that was out of square.

Final dry fit, Side #2…grab a brush..

Bottle of glue, and the clamps I removed from Side #1…( been a day, after all..)
To make things go a tad bit better, glue up was in 2 stages…less wrestling this way..

Brush some glue on the tenons, clamp with the c clamps…a single 6” F clamp to pull the rails down to the panel..
Carefully lift this mess out of the 3rd hand (VISE) and add the other stile, and the rest of the clamps,,,

And sit this aside for a day..

As I start on getting the 2 ends milled up…that will the new “exciting” episode..
Stay tuned…
