no previous part Part 1 of A Table for the Gazebo series Part 2: Glue up the top »

OK, there is a brand new Gazebo sitting on the back patio…has a few chairs. Would be nice to have a table to sit in-between the 2 rocking chairs….and set my cold drink on this summer…maybe a plate of snacks? I still have about 15 bft of Ash lumber…..Maybe build a table out of that? So…

Have three 1×6 x 4’ planks….hauled those to the shop. Weight restrictions meant one at a time..

With the worst of these three on top. there are still three planks upstairs…1×6 x 75”..don’t think I’ll run out soon..

Checked the ends of the top plank….hopefully to get about 30” or so of decent lumber…

Glance along an edge…not too great…ends ?

Well, this end will need trimmed a bit…other end?

That knot has got to go…set up a “saw bench”

D-112 saw to make a few cuts…

Split the line…and see how it turns out..

Used this first plank, to lay out #2….trying for the best section in there..

One end didn’t need too much off…

Saw was shiny enough…I could see a reflection..

Same with plank #3…then laid all three on the bench…

Hmmm, might be a little while, before the clamps and glue can arrive….

Tablesaw to rip down the worst of the curvy edges…try again..

Still going to arrange for best match….need to run the Jointer Plane to straighten things out a bit…..

Weight restrictions end this weekend…..may get the Stanley No.6c to work on that.

Plan right now? get this top glued up, and set aside. Then craft a set of legs…by gluing 2 strips up, to make a square stock. Once those are done….Details, details, details…..rumour is a drawer will be involved…with 5-1/2” wide aprons…..we’ll see

Stay tuned…

Looking good, curious, do you clamp the 2 boards together and joint them or do 1 at a time?

I do one at a time, usually…
