« Part 4: Mortises? Part 5 of Ladder for Towels? series Part 6: Assembly, and a PIP »

Decided to finally head to the shop, Sunday afternoon…and see about the other 5 mortises….and even time how long I was taking per mortise. Got down to the about 3pm….and spent about an hour and a half down there…

Move the completed side and the treads out of the way….slap the other side of the ladder onto the top of the bench…

Start here right at 3:00

Chop down 1/2 way into the show side….flip over, and complete the mortise..

save the mallet for assembly…hammer works better on Mortise chisels….Time? 3:15pm….

Time? 3:30pm…dry fitted the first 2 mortises…rotate the side to work at the other end….

Time: 4:00pm….which leaves the center mortise to do…

Time: 4:15pm…..decided to at least try to dry fit the entire mess, just to see how to clamp it all together..

Time: 4:30pm….May have to rethink this clamping arrangement…need to add wedges to the tenons, add shims to the clamps….decided this was enough, for a Sunday afternoon…

Chisels used?

Just these 3….easy to keep track of them….a strop was nearby…a few quick pulls, and they were back to work.

Monday? Shop is closed….may try again on Tuesday….

Stay tuned.. ( 15 minutes on a mortise? Getting slow?)
