« Part 8: Build a drawer Part 9 of A Project for March series no next part

Set up a sander, to remove burn marks, and overlong dovetails…

Made sure this table was square to the platten,,,,

Burn marks on the lid are gone. Clamps on the drawer are too. Sanded the corners smooth, all four of them, and tried a dry fit into the case…

Didn’t want to shove it all the way in…in case it gets stuck….there was an issue, though….bottom of the drawer was a bit too long…needed trimmed down a bit…we have ways..

Junior Jack. Then a little layout work up in front…

Mark out for two wooden knobs…then drill the holes a bit tight…

A spot of glue on the knob’s tenon, use the red clamp to press the knob into place. repeat for #2….Handles are now installed. Next…

One of these days, I’ll build a project that WILL take them shiny Brass hinges….not today. Went with the Hobby Lobby ones. I’ll need that screwdriver to drive some very tiny screws….and a special pilot hole drill bit..

Noticed the drawer itself needed leveled a bit…

Ok, set the drawer aside, for now. A few clamps to hold the lid and case together, and to the bench….First screw into the first hole of the first hinge….snap. Move the hinge to the right a bit, to cover the snapped off screw…re-drill, WAX the threads….and the screw is installed….repeat 7 more times….then remove the clamps..

Then get out the stack of 100 grit sandpaper….sand everything….then a stack of 220 grit was gone through…

Then a coat of stain was brushed on….do one section, set the brush down…wipe the section down, move onto the next. Until…

Everything is coated, and wiped down….yes, even the insides..

Then let this dry a day….come back, fix a few spots, recoat with a wash coat of the stain….let that day a day…

So, after a visit to the heart Doctor about having a Watchman installed in my heart….and a few errands….I might get the first coat of clear gloss poly brushed on this evening….I have to remember to leave the drawer out….varnish may cause it to lock in place….

Build part is down….may come back here with a better PIP….if anyone wants

Stay tuned…

It’s looking good, Bandit. What’s going to live in there again?
