no previous part Part 1 of A Project for March series Part 2: Panel building, 2 done, 2 to go »

Had a stack of “Leftovers” from the last project….mainly Ash..

Thought about resawing all this down….keeping the better parts at 1/2” thick….but..

Not going to be easy…

Figured I could set the rip fence to 2-1/2”..

And avoid the worst of the defects…

The 1×2s ?

Hmmm, may take some careful cutting….Reset the tablesaw….Zero Clearance Overly, fence 1/2” away from the blade…..blade all the way up…working on the wider boards first..

Not too bad…Thin stuff set aside..

Problems began, when I decided to thin those 1×2s…..from 7/8” down to 1/2”....Even dropping the blade height down a bit….things were getting too close to my fingers….had to grab a stick to help push one part through the cut..

Yep, saw nipped the stick, and kicked it back into my hand…

Still had a few more to rip…got out the REAL PUSHSTICKS..

And finished things up..

These will wait until the hand feels a little better….

Back Story? Well a few years ago ( I think) Paul Sellers had a Blog about building his “Desktop Organizer” during his Master Class video shows….I even built one version….

So…maybe I could revisit that with this supply of leftovers…..except, instead of one drawer across the bottom….how about 2, side by side drawers?

Stay tuned…

BTW…all the “red” showing up? is red paint. I happened to use the ZCO when I repainted a Millers Falls Block plane a while back…..figured the red around the opening for the blade would warn people…..Red on the stick came from that. Handle for the one push stick was an old saw handle, originally painted red,

Other than the drawer(s).....will see how close I can get…
