Had the measurements for the raised panels….needed a way to make a panel to that size..3/4” x 10-3/4” x 12-3/8”..
Boards are already 3/4” thick…and I can just cut the 1×6 into 11” long sections….it was that last one, that proved difficult….so, I hauled a 6’ (more or less) long plank to the shop…meaning not only did I have to duck me head about the 4th step from the shop floor….that plank had to as well….then I set it over on the saw…
marked out 11” sections…allowed for a couple bad spots….and soon had 6 blanks..
Then set up the rip fence to just barely remove one edge…while running the straightest edge along the fence…
tapered, at that? So, looking at 5-3/4” width….how to get to 12-3/8” width? Maybe if I reset the fence to 3-1/2” width…
Then, clean up the rough edge of the left over..
And use one of these as a filler? Did a bit of lay out..
Then sort until the grain looks good..
Ok…3.5” x 3…+ 1-3/4” ......should be close enough….set a couple dowels out, then the blanks on the dowels
Moosh some glue around, align the edges, and add a few clamps..
2 on the edges, flip over, add a 3rd one in the center…and set aside…grab the rest of the wide blanks and a filler, and do the other glue up….and set it over with the first one..
let these sit overnight. I also stashed the two completed frames in front of them…as I needed the room on the bench..
And start build the end frames…I added a small extra detail to the legs, and got rid of that sharp step…I was also getting better with the mortise work..
Bit of a brain cramp…almost put the wrong part in the wrong spot…numbers didn’t quite line up….got that fixed, and soon had one end frame completed..
Fit was tight enough, that this did not need a clamp, when I set it over with the rest….
Chisels and I were having issues….finally gave up for the evening after a slow start..
This is how far I got on the last frame I needed to do….2 hours done…back was hurting..quitting time!
Tomorrow, I can get this frame done, and see about 2 more panels getting glued up….need 6 total..
Stay tuned…

More progress. It’s fun watching this one come together.

Can’t wait to see how you edge the panels to fit the mortise, plane maybe?
Have your say...
