« Part 5: Catching things up Part 6 of Using up Leftovers series Part 7: catching up, again »

Today, spent two one hour sessions in the shop. First hour (forgot the camera) was about removing the clamps from the case…

And then get all them parts milled to make the drawers. Those ridges were planed off with a #4 smooth plane…sides were milled for width and length… Plywood for the drawer bottoms was cut to size. 6 drawer backs were milled to size. Drawer sides needed to rebates, one on each end,,,

The ones in the back are for the thickness of the drawer’s back. the ones up front were a bit different. Not only on the outside of the side, they weren’t as big….

These were to match dados in the Ash drawer fronts….plywood bottom was fitted to a rebate along the bottom edge of the drawer front…..had to rip the sides and back to account for the plywood’s thickness…

Something like this…Had ONE drawer front that was too wide…found that out AFTER milling all the grooves…Grrrr
Got all the parts milled…I checked the case for square..

Not too bad….took a little “cool-down” break….that was a LOT of changes made on the tablesaw…blade heights, fence settings..test fits…BREAK!

This time, I remembered the camera…..
Dug out the good Brad hammer, some small nails…and, just in case…

A pilot hole drill..yes, that is a drill bit…
1st drawer…trying to figure out HOW to clamp one of these…

Even a caul. Laid this over on the tablesaw…and assembled a second drawer…and laid it over there, too

Followed by #3….was beginning to get the hang of this….but, was running out of clamps in this size…

By the time this drawer was clamped up…I was out..of clamps 2’ and under and a place to set #4…left it sitting right there…4 done..

Only 2 to go. Sides are nailed and glued to the plywood bottom, and then the back is nailed and glued to the sides and the bottom….the Ash front is simply glued in place…..not the fanciest of drawer building…seems to work for these small-ish drawers.

Next time, will clean these 4 up, while the last sit are sitting glued up.
Then, maybe size the lid, and hinge it?

Stay tuned….MIGHT just get this done before Labor Day…
