« Part 1: Starting up Part 2 of Block Plane Box, version 2 series no next part

So, on to the other end of this box….

Needed to know where the groove for the lid will be, height-wise….so I could cut the end to size…

Only needed dovetails to go this far up. Just to the bottom of the groove. first corner came out great..but

“Concentration..slip away..” Notice where the groove is….and how the pins go? WRONG WAY…Not only did the dummy mark things out wrong, he went and cut them wrong, too….only to discover when cutting out the tails on the end piece….that things were backwards….grrrrrr. Had to make a new side and end, from scratch…

Got that fixed….then needed a handle for the sliding lid…

Which meant yet another groove to be done…good thing I’d left the Stanley 45 set up…to make a groove in this small of a part..

I used a bigger hunk of scrap pine. Then, had to cut the lid for length, until the handle fit the box…

Dry fit….just to make sure things will fit….that when the lid is shut…

You’d have to look close to see where it opened…

Then glue, cauls, and clamps…

Only needed one for the handle on the lid. Needed a few extras, because some of the corners weren’t closing up..clamps and cauls to close the gaps. Otherwise, could have only needed 1 clamp per side.

Let these sit the rest of the day…..next day, clamps came off, joints got cleaned up, a blob of dried glue in one groove got removed….Panel for the bottom of the box was trimmed to rough size…a bead of glue, and a single …

“Clamp” and let this sit until last night….then more clean ups

Either with a plane, or a sander….

This is the non-handle end…Had to trim the handle for a better fit….and wax the bevels on the lid…

Side 1…

Side 2…

Check handle for fit…
1st coat of Witch’s Brew .. vs..Pine…

May need a second coat….yes, the Stanley No. 18 block plane does fit inside…

Need to search for a Stanley label….and this will be posted as a project…

Thanks for looking…...

Waiting on a coat of clear gloss varnish to dry….label?

Has been printed out, trimmed, and glued to the box.
