« Part 3: Box #2 Part 4 of Block plane box series no next part

Not working as fast or as long as I used to…but…had the parts all cross cut to size…time to start making box joints

Used this 1/4” chisel, to lay out the fingers….then a bandsaw to make a lot of cuts…seems to help when I chop the waste out….

Got these two corners done…then the Boss needed to go to the store…came back and tried the last two corners…

When I laid out the fingers for the #3 corner….somehow the part got flipped the wrong direction…grrrrrr
Completely remade that end, from a new piece of pine…was able to fit all four corners together enough that a glue up could be attempted…

That caul is there, because a clamp wanted to slide a bit too far in..and bow in the side….clamp was there to clamp in the topper…once it had been cut, sanded and planed to a slip fit….line a glue and slide it in place..

About like herding cats..get 2 or 3 corners in place, and the others would pop out….finally all 4 rested where they were supposed to go…barely…

This morning, those clamps came off..test fit showed things were a tad out of whack….sanders to correct some of the spots..but, the inside of the lid was a bit too tight…we have ways…

A SHARP, wide chisel…hand and a chin to power it down….soon removed the “fat spots”...

Chisel is an 1-1/2” wide Stanley Handyman. Test the fit one more time..

Lid was about 1/2” too tall, so the tablesaw was used to trim things down a bit….
View is of the bottom of the two boxes….almost a piston fit…almost a shame to close the “vent”

Then coat of the Witch’s Brew…

Need to find a Shelton label to draw on…and then add it to the end of the lid….after the Brew is dried.

Plane is a Shelton No.18 All Steel low angle (15 degrees) block plane…..

Next plane?

Seems a hair wider….and has a bit more in the trunk…

Wondering how dovetails might work with these small boxes…..only one way to find out…
Stay tuned…

The next little boxes will be a bit different…both in the corner joints, and the lid used…Whether to start a new blog, or keep this one going? Not sure just yet…
