« Part 7: Outof the clamps, add the top, start on a drawer... Part 8 of Build a table, with Leftovers series Part 9: Out of the clamps, handle installed, PIP? »

Picked up some screws, and a 1/4×24” x 24” plywood panel…test fit the drawer, was a hair too wide in back..71-1/2 router checked for “bumps” in the dados…none found…must be the back is a tad too long….

trimmed a 1/16” off one edge of the back…then set out all the parts for the drawer build..

Didn’t need a huge box of screws..

10 should be enough…chased down the glue bottle, and the mallet, let the battle begin!

Glue on the tails of the first side…used the plywood to hold things almost square…more glue..

Second side added…glue in the dados, slide the back in place, need pilot holes drilled, Ash does NOT play nice with screws…even waxed ones, so..

Drilled a few pilot holes. Waxed the steel screws up…and drive a few in…

3 in each end…checked the drawer for square…I don’t mind a little toe-in at the back….trying to avoid any toe-out.
Add a screw through the bottom panel and into the back…no glue…then 2 clamps to the drawer front…

To hold these things tight until the glue dries..

Then took this mess over to the table, and made sure it would indeed slide in…

It does fit! Next, the top of the table needs worked on…can’t very well work on it up here , need some floor space, but where?

Hmmm, need to clear this spot….so..

Should do. Need the corners of the top cut a bit…sharp corners and knee caps do not go well…got out the High Tech Radius Guage…

And a Vintage saw to make 4 cuts…

Front two corners were cut, cuts cleaned up with the beltsander…

Then, turn the table around, and cut the back two corners….decided a round-over bit for the edge of the top..

Set things up on the bench…one leg held by the vise…rounded over, then sanded thing to 100 grit…then dug out the can of stain, and a brush…and gave just the top a coat of “Gunstock”

Let this sit a bit…dug out a few handle choices for the drawer…

Hmmmm, like the 3 Bears? Too fat, too small…and maybe…

We’ll see, ( Boss wants to go shopping after bit, might see what else I can find)
Time to wipe the stain down..

Tried to make this look like one big slab…sap wood to heart wood, back to front…as for the “work holding”

Still have to work on the bottom of the table, and finish the drawer….
Stay tuned, we be gaining on it…

More handle choices…

Don’t have a lathe to turn knobs/ handles with…so…leaning towards the one at the bottom of the line up..round wooden insert. We’ll see.
