« Part 5: Out of the clamps, a clean up, and some foot-work Part 6 of DVD Cabinet of Ash series Part 7: A panel for a door »

Almost as in need a few plugs made…
Found the counter-bore bit..

Decided to to see how much I could get done, with this sore thumb..

They had a bit of digging to do on it. Set the bit into the drill press..

mainly so I could use the vise to hold things still….also had a drill set up to sand the cut-outs…and remove the burn marks…old Bandsaw blade burned as much as it cut….

Counterbores done…almost..

Added a screw of two to the glue blocks, to reinforce the glue joint..then changed to a pilot hole bole in the drill press…the one in the brace was too large, and hard to keep on track in the center of the hole…then got out all the screws I needed, and the new bottle of glue….set the case in the bench vise..

And installed both of the side pieces….burn marks cleaned up nicely?
Ran into a problem…

IF one end fit..the other did not….hmmm…was a hair too long….can’t saw it, beltsander could “erase” the extra…used a better clamp, too…and then added screws..

And I make plugs to fill these later..Ash..or..Walnut?
Router was still set up for a round-over, did one side piece to test the cut….bit was a hair too deep, reset that, and do the other side piece…came time to do the front…2 hands for the router + 1-2 hands to hold the case still…wasn’t going to work…we have ways..

2 clamps to hold things still….route the edges, put router away. Stand the case up on the bench..

It wanted to rock a bit..used the #3 plane, to pare down the one “high” foot, try again…until the case sat firmly flat on all four feet. Details?

Decent looking miter joints? so…next time in the shop, thumb willing, I can start building the door…
Thumb and camera’s battery decided it was quitting time for today….always tomorrow

Stay tuned…

Hope your thumb feels better. Hate injuries like that as makes everything harder to do. Nice design for the cabinet.

Have your say...
