Moose and Squirrel have delivered a “Plan” to the shop…despite Boris and Natasha’s best efforts to steal it…so..
We have Plan….not much of a cut list, though…
Yeah..ok…have a 4/4×8 plank for the top of the Hutch…but, it has “issues”
So, today…I cut the top for length….and jointed the good edge…had a curve right in the middle of about 1/8”
This will be the “back edge” of the top shelf…live edge?
Bark got removed, first with a wide chisel….then smoothed out with that spokeshave….rather than leave a sharp, knife edge, I spokeshaved a “flat”, which became a round-over…
As it would be a little rough to round over with a router. set the top aside, for now..
I also cut the front corners a bit, to match the ones on the desk
Has a slight curve to it…no biggie. Will leave that alone. Hauled a 4/4×6 x6’ plank to the shop, needed to get four 4/4×6 x18-3/4” uprights to support the shelf….and..
But only got 3. Not the best looking ones, either….all needed jointed…
The cupping needed scrubbed flat..
Then plane to remove the scrub marks
So, I had three uprights done…needed to haul yet another plank to the shop..
had to hunt for the “best” 18-3/4” long stretch without big knots…Got the fourth upright almost done…set up the rip fence on the saw…ripped an edge so it is parallel to the other edge, then squares the ends on all the uprights, so they would all match each other. Set these over onto the top shelf,,,,needed lengths for shelves…and ripped them for width…then square the ends…set the 9” tower shelf and the 23” monitor shelf over with the uprights..
Then figured how long the cubby shelves needed to be..and made 4 of those, from cutoffs..
Decided to use stopped dados to join this mess together….had to set up the old router, with a 1/2” bit..
Will need to layout where all the dados will be, how long to make them, and how deep. That will be next time
Stay tuned…

I always loved the cartoon. Looks like a great start to your project.
