« Part 15: Fit a drawer Part 16 of New desk for my computer series Part 17: Last drawer, top worked on, stain... »

Got the clamps off of Drawer #3 and #4, this morning while the shop was still cool…Had to clean the sides up a bit..

Jack plane to get it close….then..

A #3 sized smooth plane to smooth things out…worked on both drawers…had an issue as to what one goes where…

Got that straightened out. All edges got sanded, then the fronts got a coat of stain, and their handles installed..

Will do, for now..( I marked the inside of each drawer, as to which went where) Which left time for work on the skinny drawers…

2 drawer fronts, means I have to do this 4 times..and then..

Trim the pins with a chisel, or three….set some scrap to match the height of the opening, and marked out the tails.

Bandsaw to make a few cuts, cutting on the waste side of the lines…chisel to clean up…then a test fit…

Someday, I get this figured out….grooves for the drawer bottom to set in…used the tablesaw..rough guess on the length of the backs ( came within 1/8” too long) and used the back to mark out for the plywood bottom to be cut..

In theory, I had one drawer done ( ran out of plywood for #2)

Right hand drawer. One of the drawer fronts had a blow-out..

Glue and a clamp to fix. Ash drawer sides needed jointed, so they will at least match each other….we have ways

So..a test fit of the right hand skinny drawer? was 1/8” too wide at the back…grrrrrr, took the back out of the drawer, crosscut the excess off, and re-installed the back….with screws…now a test fit..

It FITS!....whew. Did not have enough plywood to assemble the other drawer…was getting warm in the shop…
Laid out the “options” for the edge of the desk’s top…

Clothes dryer was started up…ran me out of the shop….needed to go and buy another handi-panel of 5mm plywood, anyway…I think that will do, for one morning…
Stay tuned..
