no previous part Part 1 of Box from Ash scraps series Part 2: In and out of the clamps »

Ok, a little background on this one….just before all those trips to the Hospital happened…I had a bunch of leftovers from the Desk project….even had the better looking pieces all resawn down to 3/8” stuff….then, once I was allowed to work IN the shop, Chester Drawers Project started up….

So…now I have the time to putter around with the Ash boards..

Picked out 4 that almost matched each other…jointed the ends, trimmed a couple for length…

Matched up 2 to make a panel, and glued it up, and set it aside..

And made a second panel glue up..

And set it aside for a day, or so…had a stack of shorter parts..

Figured I could match up a couple of pairs and use those for the ends of the box.. got one glued up..

Vise makes a nice third hand….as for the other end panel?

This might take a bit of work…
let this all set a day….even laid out a few pieces for a lid….or two..

Was getting late, so I left things as is….

Stay tuned…

Looks like your on to something there. I like ash, it is very nice to work with and responds well to hand tools and has a nice grain. I think it is somewhat underused.

Looks like you’re making good progress on the box. It’s amazing how much work goes into making a small project.

I’m after some Ash myself as I have not worked with it before…..But Bill (the firefighter here on our thread) is going to bring me some when we can get together when he comes down to the lake here for a fishing trip…..maybe later on in the Spring when I can get around better and healed up enough….No woodworking for a few months now…! It sucks being stove up and can’t do what I like to do… working the wood, bass fishing, among other things…..I’ll get there….This ain’t my first rodeo….!!
