« Part 1: getting started, Part 2 of Grandson's Coffee Table series Part 3: just a glue up »

Mortises…Jig was set up…

I use the tenon to lay out the mortise…roughly centered on the leg…

Easy way was to just trace around the tenon, but that leads to twisted holes, IF the boards more…so, I make two marks where the top and bottom of the mortise will be…go up to the top, mark to spots showing how wide, and where the tenon will be…squares to mark across the leg…used a marking gauge to mark the side walls..

Usual suspects as to chisels…

Narex 8mm next to the Buck Brothers 3/8”....also used an Aldi’s 8mm chisel for chip clean out…and some chopping, too. Had a problem…seems knots wanted to get in the way….even chipped the edge of the Narex…Finally..

One down, 7 to go…dry fits as I went…until..

All were done….removed the mortise jig from the bench..

Needed a few jigs made…bead work..

Short aprons get a single bead along the bottom edge…once each was “beaded” it got sanded smooth, and set aside…then the long aprons were beaded…one wasn’t too bad to do…the other was the easiest..

Again, sand and set aside…..legs were next…tried a few different jigs…until finally..

All four legs were done…just the outside corner on each leg…but, it takes two set-ups, and two cuts to do..laid all the parts over on the table top…set up the miter saw…

Langdon 75 Cordless saw…needed 4 corner blocks made..45 at each end…almost a picture frame…

Could have made that one a tad bigger….

It will just have to do. Need two more tasks, before these will be ready to use…need a pilot hole for each screw..and a countersink..pilot hole was by electric drill…countersinks?

Another cordless tool….Stanley 6”....marked as O.D. U.S.A.

Monday…need to buy a couple packs of screws…and try a glue up of the base…
Stay tuned…
