« Part 3: worked on the aprons Part 4 of End Table, out of Ash series Part 5: Mortises done, top trimmed, dry fit »

Yes, I do tenons first. I gave the tablesaw, and the bandsaw the day off….went Olde School today…

Once all the lay out lines were done…I could use this saw to make the shoulder cuts. Just saw down to a mark…Saw is set square, and stays that way..Needed a stop block, so the tenon lengths would all be the same..

Then saw to the lines..

Got the shoulder cuts done….next the cheek cuts…

I could just use a backsaw, or..grain willing..

Split off the waste with a chisel….had a couple other cuts to do…

Handsaw and a chisel for those. Tenons are done…set up the jig for the mortises…

Hmmm, that don’t look like it will fit. Part of the jig was getting chewed up anyway…might as well replace that, and reset the jig for the leg blanks…

Set things up, got out the usual suspects..

And lay out and chop a mortise..

And a test fit..

So far, so good…worked on the other mortise for this leg…then worked on a second leg…and a dry fit..

Was getting a bit tired…cussing was starting up…stashed these parts out of the way..

Hey, I did find a use for the tablesaw….swept the floor, and called it a day.

Maybe tomorrow, I can get the other mortises done, for around the top of the legs. I want a full dry fit, all clamped up, and square…so I can size the rails for the bottom shelf….

Stay tuned…

What ? Tenons first, suppose you cut your pins before the tails too!
