« Part 9: Drawer Building 101, part 2 Part 10 of Next Kitchen Project series Part 11: Too LONG of a day »

Puzzle was how to cut what Oak I have left, into all the parts I needed to make….

This was the easy part. I need a top shelf for the unit above the microwave oven…Shelf needs to be 9” wide, and match the top of the base. Length I can cut to…width?

Should be enough, and enough left over for a stile for one of the door frames…

I have these three, at 3/4” thick, by 6-1/2” wide….Topper needs two sides at 8” wide….by 23” long….I can cut one of these down for the 23” blanks…but will need a third piece from another board wide enough to get me to 8” wide…can rip it for the width needed…or, roughly 2” wide, and work from there.

Then there are these two…5-1/2” wide, by 3/8” thick….Will have to do a glue up for width…should have enough for both door panels…

Vintage saw? need it for crosscuts and rip cuts….Not doing Oak with a handsaw….

Parts for one side…edges were close enough I didn’t need to joint an edge..

Almost didn’t need clamps, either…but, since I need to move this out of the way..

Couple of clamp to keep things together…second side panel needed one caul..

Then set it aside with the first one….until I need them clamps back.. Top was cut for length and ripped for width

Rest of the second 1×6 was ripped down to about 2”, along with a few scraps..

Should be enough for 4 stiles, and four rails. still have one more 1×6

Well, there is a shelf in the topper, goes right above the Microwave Oven, needs to be about 8” wide….should be enough in this plank, for that.
Puzzle seems worked out…almost. Need to cut the stiles for length, mark a center point, and figure out the length of the rails…allowing for 1/2” tenons on each end. All the stiles and rails also need a groove ploughed, to house the flat panel….

Drawer? Well, the clamps came off, a test fit was done…right upper corner was a tad too tall…planed that down so the drawer would slide in..

Still a tad snug…waiting on handles, then I can “fine tune” the fit.. two other glue-ups can sit where they are..

Out of my way..until I need them clamps for the doors. getting a bit long-winded here….will do another one ON the door building….until then..

Stay tuned…
