« Part 1: start up with some scraps Part 2 of A simple Pine Stool series Part 3: Day #4, glue ups, clean ups, and a PIP? »

Both trips to the shop were a bit short….one was governed by how long the dryer needed to run…the other was until the back said STOP.

Got the panel out of the clamps…and planed flat.
.
Still using that same old plane…
Stretcher got some lines drawn on it, and sent to the bandsaw…came back like this..

Used it to lay out for two mortises..

Note to self: LEAVE the lines…better fit that way…

Dry fit…also marked which way the wedges will go….and dug out the stick of Walnut, to make the wedges…

Clothes were dry…leg was sore…Day Two was done….
Ok, Day three….ONE yard sale this morning….meh. House sat for a while…then after supper, went to the shop..

Laid out for 6 mortises…with the center points marked…Drill press had a Forstner bit in the chuck, and a scrap of pine. That way, I don’t blow out the other side when the holes were drilled…

Drilled the holes…

Laid out some spokeshaves, for later, in the hopes that one of them would be sharp enough..

Ok, square tenons do not fit into round holes, too well..

Hammer and an Aldi’s chisel seemed to work just fine…dry fit?

Repeat for the other end, then a full dry fit ( for now…)

Clamp because the stretcher was a hair long…..Knock things back apart..

Kerfs on the ends of the stretcher were easy to do,,,bandsaw…these three were a different matter.. Kerfs are for the wedges. Then the spokeshave was used..

Just to ease the edges a bit….didn’t feel like getting out the corded Router…While things were still together, drew a few lines on the top..

Ease the corners, and mark the ends for square…bandsaw for both…it also cut a few wedges from the stick of Walnut..

Back was hurting, time to stop..

Twas Quitting Time!....Maybe tomorrow, I can get the bottle of glue used? Do a bit of assembly?

Stay tuned…

Those walnut wedges will add a nice contrast effect.
