« Part 2: Cutting parts for the frames Part 3 of Maple Frame & Panel Box series Part 4: Time for a little assembly? »

Got a bit done today…before the Boss made me mow the yard…..sitting in front of the A/C Unit now.

Had the Stanley 45 still set up for dado work….needed to set up for these cutters, instead..

Mainly than #12 groove cutter. The 1/4” Tongue cutter will come later….had to make sure they matched each other..

Don’t need the spurs….going with the grain….rotated these up, out of the way….long rods are held in the vise…

Always nice to have an extra set of “hands” doing this….got the fence and the sliding skate reset, to go with the new cutter..

Tried this out as a jig to hold the parts still…..had to add other parts…

Pine scrap as a backstop was added. needed to cut parts square, and to the same length….

then check with a square..

Works for me. The rails needed two grooves done, one for the raised panel to sit in, the other for the bottom of the box…..only two rails got the extra groove..

As the top rails don’t need it. The corner posts also needed a second groove..

This one is for the T&G joint….ends get a tongue, that fits into these grooves…plus the groove for the raised panel

Had one corner post that was still a bit too thick…we have ways…
Needed to mill some feet…

There were four thin panels….two needed trimmed to match the shorter two…Then they were ganged up into the vise..

And jointed until they were all the same width…
Then used one to lay out for the tenons….Langdon 75 to make the shoulder cuts…bandsaw to make the cheek cuts

I also haunched the tenons. to fill the grooves in the corner posts…
Got tired of walking on this stuff…was a bit crunchy..

Got that cleaned up…..then…got two thin panels that matched each other for grain…..and did a glue up

Will let this sit awhile…..had a yard to mow….now too sore to do too much more.
Stay tuned..about time to chop a few mortises…
