Other items, first…..
The Boss picked out the “finish” she wanted…not my choice, but..

Called “Weathered Gray” a stain and varnish mix….oh well…

Got the rails done..

Was a hand tool day..other than a cordless hammerdrill..counter-bored holes for lags and their washers. A 2×2 rails screwed and glued on…notches were with handsaws.

Had to go out and buy a pair of folding saw horses…and do a paint job..

More of that “finish” let this sit on the back porch over night….

Well, this afternoon…FINALLY tore the old bed down, metal frame thingy was hauled out to the curb..
Hauled the new head and foot board into the room..and a rail..

Set the rail into the notches, hammerdrill to drive the lags home…foot board was a little tricky..trying to keep it in the notch, and set things square,, and drive two lags..

Working my way around,...one end did not want to fit…wide chisel and a hammer to MAKE it fit…

Got to the last corner..only to find the rail had a twist to it…got a big c clamp, and took the twist out..

Lags will keep it there. Slats were next..

Plan was to only use three 1×6 slats.

Hold them in place with a screw, but no glue..

Then lay down a layer of 3/4” plywood, for the mattress to lay on..finally was able to lay the mattress in place, a mattress pad, and a fitted sheet..

Mattress is a tad snug…bed is solid as a rock.

Sits a bit higher than the old bed, too. Will give it a test drive later tonight….results in the morning.

Otherwise, calling this Project done…thanks for looking in.

That came out wonderful!

Now the first thing my wife would do is put one of those ruffelly things around the bottom that make the sheets hard to change!

Slept straight through the night…...The Boss likes the new bed, too. Seems to be a “Winner”....
