« Part 14: Door is done, start on a finish? Part 15 of A Stepback Cupboard build series no next part

More of a way to close this blog…..been fun.

Back was cut down to size….hand saw and a plane were used..

Everything got a coat of amber shellac..even the insides of the doors. While getting ready to move this 73-1/2” tall cabinet…decided to fill in the “empty space” under the book case..

Had some leftover Ash, to make a front and a back, couple of pieces of Poplar for two sides, and some leftover 1/4” plywood for a bottom..

And a simple, little drawer was built. Had an extra knob, so it was added as well. I needed to pull the drawer all the way out, if I wanted to separate the two units come moving day. I had a packet of latches..

That were installed on both doors. Helps when a door doesn’t fly open, while hauling a unit up the stairs from the shop. Hauled both drawers upstairs, THAT was the easy part. While the bookcase was off the base unit, I took a bit of time, to level the top a bit with a #4 smooth plane, and plug six holes..

Leveled the Walnut plugs with a wide chisel, and that hand plane. Gave the top a coat or two of amber shellac…once the was dry…hauled it up the steps….wasn’t as easy as I thought, but it was soon in the Dining Room, waiting on the base unit to show up..

I got about 1/2 way up the steps…could not go any farther….had to get a helper to wake up long enough to help carry the thing to it’s new home. Then assembled the two units…had help to move it into a spot, where it would safely stay put. Added the two drawers..

I then sat down in my Computer Chair, and watched the fun…as the Boss and my son started to load it up..
And that is the end of this Blog. Hope you all enjoyed the story….
