« Part 7: Panels, a glue up, mortises...busy day.. Part 8 of Maple Chest of Drawers series Part 9: Case work, finally »

Ok, this one will be a long-winded one….I managed to get the second side all glued up..

Took the clamps off this morning,,,,might need them later.
Set up a saw on the bench..

As I needed a few parts cut up, to make web-frames…

Extra hand to hold while I saw. Needed 10 pieces @ 3/4×2 x 24” ( the 2” is about 1-1/2”)

Set these aside, needed 10 pc. @ 11-1/4” long, and a a bunch of 3/4×3/4 kicker stock..

These two were fine as is..

More on them in a bit… Set up the saw to start making tenons, along with a resaw jig on the bandsaw…

Mitre box does have a stop guide….doesn’t reach quite far enough, so a wood stop block was added….didn’t feel like sawing all the way through a part, so..

Mitre box also has depth stops. ( be careful IF you change saws…depth stop needs changed too..)
There is a wider board that also needs tenons..

Then I can saw the waste off on the bandsaw, with the jig on the waste side..

Then I wind up with all these parts..

I then put the mitre box away, needed that corner of the bench for a mortising jig…

Backsaw makes a couple of angled cuts on the end, chisel to pop out the waste.

Looks like this when done….these are the easy ones..

These two were a bit different….of course there would be a knot in the way..

We have ways….These two are for the wide part…

Where the top two drawers will ride on….Need a guide block added…

Once I had glue spread everywhere, and a couple clamps. There is also a kicker, to keep the single drawer below from tipping down..

Ok…the hardest frame is done, awaiting the glue to dry…There is a top frame above this, but it needs a little extra work done..

They need notched to fit around the posts at the top…

A corner block also goes right at the top….maybe. may just use the top webframe as a way to hold the top of the case in place. One frame done…four easier ones to do….later. Right now it is Lunchtime…3 hours in the shop

Stay tuned..will try to get a few more done today…

Went back down to the shop last night, to check whether I had turned the fan off… to looking at the next mortise I had laid out…..was on the wrong side of the board…flipped the board over, re-did the layout….and….now both ends of that rail are done and glued up….then I went back to bed…

Lucky I did check on things, might have turned out badly?
