« Part 1: start up Part 2 of Pine Pantry Cupboard series Part 3: Face frame, and a little assembly »

Ok, part 2. Those 1xs with the sawn edges, they were smoothed out and jointed this morning….made a bit of a mess on the floor..

Wanted to get the parts as close to matching each other as i could. Laid out for some tenons to be cut on the ends of the short parts..

Again, I wanted all of these to match each other. Set up a jig on the bandsaw, and then reset for the rest of the cuts.

That “thing” sitting beside the tenons?

Is a mortise jig I use. Attached to the work bench, it will hold the part being mortised..

About the only clamp I need. Laid out a mortise, using the tenon as a guide. Backsaw to make a kerf cut at an angle. Chopped down at the far end, and pop the waste out..

I can go back with a wider chisel and square things up…at least for a dry fit..

Worked my way around all four corners, and another dry fit, and check for square..

Mortise jig also doubles as an extra hand. While the frame was sitting like this, I could measure for a few “stiffeners”, and cut them to length. A couple pilot holes, and a countersink..

Time to spread some glue around…

Bottom frame gets two stiffeners, as a shelf will go on top of it,,the bottom shelf of the Pantry. Top stiffener..

Top of the Pantry goes above this. Jig still helps out, holding things in place while I glue things up.

Makes it easy to check for square, too.

Letting the two frames sit in the clamps, until the glue is dry. Need to make some room to work on the face frame. Need to go and buy a few more screws, too.
Maybe by tomorrow, I can do a little more assembly work…..if the back is willing. Stay tuned.
