planing some very old timbers (maple) with my vintage bailey #5 and it’s a slow process, ... very hard wood. after sharpening, blade removes material nicely, but seems to lose its razor edge fairly quickly forcing me into a bull work operation of removing material. i am taking a fairly low (unaggressive, thin shavings) depth of cut. this...

what should i pay for a #7 stanley/bailey or equivalent plane, looking for a user not a collector - 18 replies

hey guys, anyone know what i should pay for a jointer plane ? looking for something equivalent to a #7 stanley/bailey that i could refurbish, ... no cracks or missing chunks of casting. willing to fabricate handles if required, and clean and sharpen. not looking for an “antique” collector’s edition, just a working plane...

#5 Baily hand plane (made in USA), What is the thread size for the small tote handle screw looks to be 18 threads per inch, but smaller dia than 1/4 inch. Can any one help with the size and where to order one ?
