Location: Burton, Michigan

I am a retired autoworker from Michigan and have dabbled in firefighting for most of my life. Woodworking has become my passion since about 1972 but didn't get into the finer aspects of the craft until around 2002 When I purchased my Jet Cabinet Saw when straighter saw cuts became a possibility. I discovered Norm Abrams and Wood Magazine about the same time and fell in love with making furniture. Since then, I have made several types of small and large project and I am most proud of my Desk set I made about 10 years ago. I am most comfortable working in my wood shop and making sawdust. It doesn't matter whether I'm actually working or not, just being there gives me a sense of peace. Woodworking has run in my family for several generations and even when my son has a chance, he tries his hand at it. Give me a pile of lumber, and I'm happy! Friends have asked me to make them things but I am reluctant to charge them for two reasons: first, I don't know how to charge them and second, I do it out of love of making the project. Knowing I made something someone can appreciate makes me very proud. Well, enough blabbing, it's time to go to work, well not work, but having fun!

Well, I’m new at this blogging stuff. But, here goes! I’ve been woodworking for several years now and have enjoyed it greatly. One thing I have noticed that the older I get, the better I get at my hobby. I guess the old adage applies “we get better with age”. But, I guess that’s true with all of us.

I have been impatiently waiting for the weather to turn so I can return to my cold workshop. I turned our garage into MY work area but made everything mobile in case I have to bring the car in for shelter from bad weather. I have a couple of projects on the bench waiting to be finished, a wall clock and a couch table. I have some request from friends for some projects and one honey do yet to begin. The weather has got to break soon, I hope. I usually run an LP gas wall heater but I ran out of gas recently and don’t see the need to re-fill at the moment. Just 10 more degrees please! And, sunshine.
