I’ve been recently commissioned to build a set of matching, shaker-style tables for a client.
One is a 60” x 18” wide hall table, the other is a 20×32 side table.
My client is a fan of the color purple, so I wanted to provide them with something that is both addressing this need, but also aesthetically pleasing. My solution is to build the tops from the purple heart pictured here and then use some ribbon figured sapele for the base (legs and rails). The two should be a nice contrast and mellow over time as the purple heart looses the intense purple and pulls in a little brown.

My plan is to have both tables completed by late February.

The Purpleheart will be unique and I do like Sapele, as it is a subtle brown/gold colored wood with some chatoyance. If they like a more vibrant color scheme, you may want to use some Padauk to accent this combination. I’ve come across different colors of Padauk, so you may be able to get a more dark brick red/orange and like the Purpleheart this also will oxidize with age.

It sounds like you have a good idea of what the final piece will be like and I look forward to seeing the project as it progesses.
