Cutting new TS wing for track - 3 replies

I just bought a new Incra MDF TS wing that came with no track for fence or whatever. I was planning on using my incra fence but the attachments will not be available for about 6 weeks. I decided to rout in two tracks for a fence, to use until I get the parts I need. Question is, how can I avoid chipping the new top? Should I score it before rout...

Jointer? - 0 replies

Has anyone talked with Grizzly tools about when their jointers would be available to ship? I’m looking at the GO490XW and they just say on the site will ship later. Also is the Parallelogram bed the way to go, or the standard Dove Tail bed. Thanks Gerald

Sassafras and oak headboard? - 3 replies

I’m building a new bed out of oak and black walnut trim. While looking through my lumber I found 5 peices of 1×12 and 1×16 in sassafras 12 ft. Long. The boards have been dryed and milled, and are striaght. I really like the look of the wood and was wanting to use them for the foot and headboard. The question is, would you rip the...

Routers - 11 replies

I think I figured out which way to go with a router, decided to put it on the left side of the T.S. Now I’m torn between the MLCS New PowerLift or the Incra plr-v2. Both seem like good lifts and the power lift really looks good.

Mlcs power lift? - 2 replies

I’m thinking about buying the power lift, as if I haven’t spent enough already but had a few questions about it. MLCS sells a cast iron table ext. For table saws for about 250.00. If I go with the table saw wing should I put it on the left or right of the saw? Which is better? Should I forget it and go with a separate table for routi...

Veritas honing guide? - 7 replies

Does this jig work well using sheet sandpaper? I’m looking at the deluxe kit which I think is the one that sharpens wide plane blades. I saw it for 119.00 at woodcraft and was considering buying it. I have a worksharp 3000 but the jig for it is 79.00 and I’m not sure how it would work on the wide blades of a plane. I’ve just ab...

Finishing oak? - 4 replies

I’m in the process of building a new bed using oak and black walnut. I’m wanting a close to natural finish. I did some grain filling on one post using linseed oil. The wood looks great the way it is but I was wondering about sealing it with a satin poly later. Would that be ok over linseed oil? Gerald

Featherboards? - 16 replies

I’m looking at feather boards and was wondering which ones to buy. The magnetic ones are rather expensive so I was also thinking about going with the fessem fence guides. Are they worth the money, or would I be better off to just go with the cheap plastic guides and save the money for something else? The fessem guides are about 300.00 for...

Last yearI built a new workbench out of yellow pine. When I finished the top I applied about 3 coats of minwax clear poly. Now I want to remove some dents and scratches. Can I just start planing, or do I need to remove the finish first. Thanks Gerald

Crescent 8 in. Joiner - 14 replies

I’ve found a 8in. Crescent joiner for sale on CL for 600.00. It looks to be in decent shape, I haven’t called about it yet but the 2 hp motor I’m sure is not original. Everything is said to work fine. I noticed the out feed table looks to be in rough shape around the front of it. Is this OK or will it cause problems? Is the mac...

Well I guess I got it. THE HAND PLANE FEVER! What do you take for it? Two months ago I had one plane. Now I have 7. Not counting 2 junk ones. I’ve got my table about finished and changed my mind on the finish for the base. I’ve already applied a couple coats of Danish oil and now want to darken it down with stain. I though about adding the stain to more danish oil and going over it again, but thought about bloching. My table is yellow pine and really looks great now. What ...

New work bench top finish? - 7 replies

I’ve pretty much got the top of my work bench smoothed out and wanted to go ahead and put some kind of finish on it. It may be laying for awhile and I don’t want it to get stained. I’ve got some sealers on the shelf but really don’t know what to use on a work bench. The top is yellow pine. I really need help on this, I...
