Frankly, I suck at projects. I was born an idiot. Seeing the work that others do amazes me.
I also look for organic materials in most of the stuff I select to purchase for my home, and I love to buy local.
I remodeled my kitchen 3 years ago and hired a local Amish woodworker to build me solid hickory cabinets, for example. Instead of using made up countertops, I chose a solid pieace of marble and instead of the man made porcelain flooring, I used limestone.
Anyway, my heritage is Argentinian and I have an apartment I am remodeling in Buenos Aires. The kitchen has to be completely re-done and although I am not going to diss any particular product, melamine is a common wood substitute used there. My goal is to have a solid kitchen and the most common woods used there are pine and 'algarrobo'. A quick translation shed the name "locust', but I am not sure this is accurate.
I also will probably order 'algarrobo' furniture and would like to learn about the finishes, stains, care, etc... I look forward to being more acquainted with this forum and process. Thank you!
