I have been working with wood for a few years now, but with limited tools. I recently got my first table saw and a planer- two items that have opened up new a new world of possibilities. I have been gleaning from this site for a while now, and the help that I have received so far has been invaluable--all the benefits of living next door to a colony of master woodworkers, except for being able to borrow tools.

About me: I served for a few years in the Navy, and I'm currently in medical school. With school and a family, time and money are limited, but I do the best that I can with what I have of each. I did a fair amount of woodworking growing up, but I have really gotten into it over the last couple years. The biggest driving force was the lack of quality furniture available for reasonable prices--I could make it better and for less than half the cost. With every piece I make, I learn a new technique or how to use a new tool, and I think that's what really keeps me going. I enjoy activities where there is no end to the knowledge and skills that you can pick up along the way.

I love being able to get away from everything and spend some time in my makeshift garage shop with my fairly minimal tools and figure out how to make something great. It's really been a great way to learn. I can do a lot more with a handheld circular saw and a square than most people think would be possible. I'd love to have a dedicated shop full of tools, but I'm always proud when I figure out a new way to be resourceful.

About a year ago, I started an online business, selling some of the pieces I make:

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself almost a year ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…

Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…

Have your say...
