Whew, I’m just finishing drawing up a plan for a simple (looking) end table, and it’s pushing my design chops to the limit. I’m excited to start it, because it’ll be the most involved, precise woodworking project I’ve done so far. I just wish I had a better feel for the strength of hardwoods—I’m going to use the thinnest parts I think I can get away with, and count on wood’s usual ability to impress me with its strength. I can’t wait! I have to work tomorrow, but on the plate for Friday is a tapering jig for my tablesaw, a shop-made fence for my bandsaw, and some jointing practice on my router table. After that, it’s playtime—and God help any cherry or maple that crosses my path.
