2 Years ago, I started a project for an entertainment center requested by my wife. This project has ebb’ed and flowed with a new daughter and other live changing events but we keep moving forward. Many machines have been bought thinking they would solve my issues, with promises to my wife accompanying, but only the mortising machine truly proved to be worth its weight. Still waiting for the value towards this project to show for the CRB7, Tenon jig, DIY tablesaw fence, and others. I have learned the value of good contact from motor to pulley, to belt, to blade on a table saw. I have learned that just because you can raise the blade that high doesn’t mean it will cut. I have learned that the key to a good key has more to do with alignment and square than it does motor power. And that alignment will always be an allusive goal on my craftsman tablesaw (PALS were on my list but like I said, lots of money spent, I am saving for a cabinet saw). I have learned that hand tools are neat but until I get the proper sharpening tools, they will be beyond my abilities (I bought a mess of planes). I have almost mastered mortise and tenons, HA! I have figured out that my engineering and design background makes deciding on the structure of this piece very difficult and most likely the stress I imagine are never going to occur. And most of all, I have learned, only promise furniture after it is built.

I’ve been ‘retired’ for years and just figured out I’ve really only retired from promising work.

Nice, does that mean you still work?

Have your say...
