Gluing multiple slabs - 9 replies So I can joint something, I can set u my saw, I’ve got a rather nice glue up table for 16 bar clamps. But I’m really trying to glue more that 2 slabs a day. I’ve seen people with professional edge gluing set-ups use bailing wire or strapping to hold pressure and move the slab/panel to a drying rack. Anyone know what wire to buy or strappin... |

Pre catalyzed laquer - 15 replies Alright, I got talked into shellac then pre-catalyzed lacquer as best finish for chatoyance and longevity. First shot out of my gun went great everything after was a nightmare, until I watched some you tube videos to dilute more and add retarder and get smaller needle, but it still fells like a crap shoot as to the finish I get. So I sand it dow... |

Quiet random orbital - 11 replies So I’ve got a little shop in my basement, I insulated the heck out of it to enable me to get some time in at night. But the whine of the random orbital wakes either the wife or the 2 year old every time. I’ve had friends and family with some festool stuff, I don’t recall it being astronomically quieter, but it’s been a bit. Currently working wit... |

Earlex needles - 6 replies Bought the earlex system came with the giant 2mm needle no shocker it’s a pain with real thin finishes. Anybody have one? What’s the ideal needle size for laquer. I’m running the 2mm now thinned it way down with retarder and laquer thinner. Test piece looks good, and then the actual piece never lays down. I went 8:1:1. What dilution and ... |

What to use - 13 replies Ok I’m about ready to finish this joker. So I’m leaning wipe on poly. Laquer doesn’t like booze and shellac doesn’t like water. My brothers condensating whiskey glass will go on there and be spilled. I don’t want to build up the drawers, the drawer sockets are tight. Thinking wipe on on the drawers and base, Also drawer cubbies/sockets, what... |

Leg done twisted - 9 replies The leg stock set forever before getting cut. They were all perfect. I did my joinery and the project sat in my air conditioned and dehumidified shop too long after two babies in rapid succession. But one errant leg decided to go askew. Looking for an fixes anyone may know. Thinking steaming and Some cauls or something |

Pre-finishing panels before glue up?s - 5 replies Working on a wine rack currently. Never really pre-finished a piece before glue up, but I don’t really see a choice to get in to all the little cubbies. I Figured I could glue the top, bottom, the two outer panels and the two inner most panel and then finish that, being sure to tape all the dadoes beforehand and then pre finish all other... |
