Pen finishing - 4 replies

Right now I use EEE, then Mylands cellulose sealer Then Mylands frictions polish, then Renaissance wax. My finish looks goof but it seems soft and loses some lusture by the time I get the pen assembled. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to use, what steps to use and should there be drying time from one step to another?

Wormy maple - 4 replies

I have some fresh milled wormy maple boards stacked with some fresh milled wallnut boards. The boards are air drying and pretty wet right now. I dug in a few spots but can’t find any worms but there probably there. I am thinking I will dry the maple for awhile then try to find someone who can kiln dry them the rest of the way. Moisture meter - 10 replies

I am still a little confused about moisture meters. Most pin type say measurement depth is only a sixteenth or an eight of an inch deep or so. I want to know what the moisture is in the middle of a two inch slab or a turning block that could be six to eight inches thick. How does a moisture meter tell me that? Thanks for any input on this.Tom

Air drying fresh cut lumber - 10 replies

I have a chance to get a few hundred board ft of Wallnut . This wood is fresh cut at the mill at fifty cents a board feet they supply the logs and cut to my specifications. I will pick it up using my pick up truck. The question is does this seem like a fair price and is it possible to air dry this wood. Boards will probably be twelve inches wide...
