No More Porter Cable Routers? - 40 replies

Does anyone have any information on why Black and Decker has decided to end their entire line of Porter Cable routers? I really hate to see the 7512 motor go away. It is my motor of choice for my router tables.

PC 7518 Router Motor Parts - 11 replies

Does anybody know of a source for reasonably priced repair parts for a Porter Cable 7518 variable speed router motor? One of my table mounted motors is stuck on high speed and the speed control does nothing. I priced the speed control part at two different sources online, and it is at between 42% and 47% of the original cost of the router motor;...

Seeing The Newest Post in a Topic - 5 replies

Is there a way to see the original post, and then just the newest post in that thread without going through 10-15 pages and 48,000 other posts first? Then hopefully you could back into previous posts from the most recent. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Colt Subbase for Template Guides - 0 replies

I do a lot of pattern template work with flush trim bits, pattern bits and guide bushings. I just bought a new Bosch Colt with a fixed and plunge base. I want to buy a sub base for guide bushings for the fixed base; and I currently use both the PC bushings as well as the Bosch RA bushings on my larger routers. The sub base offered by Bosch for ...

Gray Maple - 5 replies

Has anyone ever had spray shellac turn maple gray? I sealed a maple box parts with Zinsser spray shellac prior to glue up, and when it dried, the maple had a gray, muddy tint to it. Where I had taped off the gluing portion of the tenon joints, the maple was still bright and light colored. Any clues from anyone out there? Thanks

Tools For Sale After Upgrading - 0 replies

I upgraded several pieces of machinery in my shop in the past few years and kept the old tools in storage, thinking that I might need/use them later. Right. Well it is now later and I was wondering if anyone near Oklahoma City might want to buy them. I would like to sell the whole bunch at once, and would make someone a good deal if they would t...

"Back Button" Functionality Issue - 38 replies

I can rarely get the back button feature to work on the LJs site without clicking it two or more times. I have not noticed this issue on any other site, but I have been having some forward button issues on a couple of other sites. I thought it might be my mouse, but it doesn’t do it on any other site (back button) than LJs. I used to think...

Trimming a Quartz Countertop cutout - 10 replies

I have the cooktop cutout from my recently contractor installed quartz countertops. I want to use it for a surface plate for sharpening, and other tasks where I need a really flat surface. I have a small (12”x12”)machined granite surface plate that I use, but this big 20”x 24”x 3mm chunk of quartz would make a great large...

Customer Service...or lack thereof - 8 replies

We as woodworkers are concerned about customer service from our vendors and suppliers. Some companies are better at this than others. Some are terrific, and some are dismal, with all degrees in between. If I was to compare the customer service from woodworking vendors, suppliers and manufacturers as a whole to the customer service offered by air...

The Woodworking Shows-Dallas Last Weekend - 0 replies

Did anyone go to the Dallas show last week? How was it? To me, the selection of vendors and seminars seemed a little lightweight this year. I decided to wait until the KC show in Feb. Maybe the selection will be better by then. This is the first time in 12+years that it was in Dallas that I missed this show. I thought last year’s show in K...

Grizzly GO604ZX - 4 replies

I have finally settled on buying a Grizzly GO604ZX 6” joiner with a spiral cutterhead. Even though I have heard and probably agree the old adage about regretting not buying the 8” over the 6”, the GO 490X 8” with spiral cutterhead that I wanted is just too long for my crowded shop. I am upgrading from a 6” benchtop ...

Are Porter Cable Tools Doomed? - 25 replies

Just wondering about PC tools. It seems that they are heading down the slope in the quality department. Are they doomed to be relegated to a “house brand” for one of the big orange or blue box stores? I have several older PC tools that have performed well over the last 15-20 years. I bought one of the original RO sanders when they fi...

Woodworking Shows - 37 replies

Did anyone go to the Baltimore show? Was it any better than the shows in past years? Since there is no Dallas show this season, I guess I will drive to Kansas City from here in America’s crossroad, OKC. Last year’s Dallas show was pretty dismal, but TWWS is the only game in town here in the “Great Midwaste” or “Flyo...

Advice on a new quiet shop compressor - 15 replies

I am in the market for a new shop compressor. I want a medium sized portable unit 1.5-2.5 HP—2-4 gal—3-4 CFM at 90-100 PSI. Max air pressure 120-150 lbs. My main concern is noise. I would like a unit around 70-75 db, whicjh would probably mean an oiled unit. Can any of you ladies and gentlemen make a recommendation based on your expe...

Wood Movement - 12 replies

I have wondered for quite a while about wood movement in our modern heated and cooled homes; where the humidity level remains fairly constant. I lived for a long time in SW Missouri, and have lived in Central Oklahoma for the past 21 years. We normally have gone from heating to AC and back, rarely opening the windows because of all of the wind a...
