I started out doing small relief carvings for family over the years. I'm just a step above beginner woodworker. My first 'wood' piece was making the small cherry wood wedding box for my son's wedding in Sep 2012. It was my first ever attempt at finger joints which I cut on my 35 yr old table saw. Alot of gaps. My second son ask me to make bigger box for his wedding in August 2015. So, I decided to step up to making the Red Oak blanket chest and hand carved a gerber daisy design on front. The box joints were improved upon with fewer gaps. I'd learned how to fill gaps with thinly sliced red oak. You cannot tell that there were some fillers in some of the gaps. The blanket chest turned out beautifully.
Now, my confidence has grown. My last project was making jewelry/gift box for a neighbor. My neighbor loves Penguins hockey and Blues Hockey and hot air balloons. It turned out beautifully!
I now must learn how to redress, sharpen and hone my PFEIL wood gouges.
