« Part 2: Turning tenon and Finishing bottom Part 3 of How To: Square Natural Edge Bowl series Part 4: The secret - Jamb Chuck to remove tenon - CAREFULLY! »

Once you’ve finished the bottom then it’s time to reverse chuck the bowl, and turn the top side.

I place the aforementioned tenon in the chuck, then use a cone center placed in the worm chuck hole to get the tenon shoulders pressed firmly into the chuck, and then tighten the chuck jaws down all around rotating to ensure concentricity.

I get the rim trued up first. Then I estimate how thick I want the bowl sides to be based on the rim thickness. I also estimate how deep to make the inside of the bowl. Not perfectly mind you! I still get it too thin sometimes! In the back ground of the pix you can see my measuring device. You can also see the jam chuck I’ll use later.

Then I turn the bowl, sand the heck out of it using the aforementioned right angle drill and mandrels. I get out the Wipe-On Poly and make the magic happen. STILL loving that Plum!
