So the next step is to remove the tenon. This is a bit tricky because you need to center up the blank to ensure concentricity of the base. So I mount up a jam chuck that will fit the bowl nicely, and place some padding to protect the finished inside of the bowl. I just used a folded up blue shop towel and it seemed to work nicely. Remember how I said the tailstock dimple in the tenon was important? This is why. You bring up that tailstock center and place it on that dimple to make sure the bowl is center up. Once you have the wings turning in the same plane it’s time to turn away that tenon. Be very careful because at this point you could really screw up...
