Location: Tucson Arizona

It all started in an 8 X 10 shed during the sixth grade. That’s where I began woodworking with a band saw, lathe, and numerous hand tools. At the time, it was simply called Randy’s Workshop and the projects were relatively simple. A few years later, my dad, Raymond, built a 50 X 30 workshop. The collection of power and hand tools grew as did my skill level. Along with woodworking, my dad and I also restored a 1931 Ford Coupe which I have owned for over 25 years.

I follow a line of entrepreneurs – my immigrant grandfather owned grocery stores and my uncles and father owned and operated a glass and hardware business. Along with my wife, Sistine, we have been involved in Tucson real estate for thirteen years. At first, we started out investing in single family homes which eventually led us to become real estate agents and owning our own real estate brokerage company. Sistine continues to operate the real estate company.

We purchased the Woodcraft store in Tucson in April 2008. The store has a perfect combination of ingredients that keeps me enthusiastic – the large selection of tools and sundries, the classroom which can host an endless variety of classes and demonstrations, and most importantly the customers.

I am slowly finding a little time to start back into woodworking.

The few projects that I have made since purchasing the Woodcraft store in Tucson have been for my son, Lucio, who is three years old. Between running the store and spending time with him and my wife, I don’t have much time for woodworking. I hope to incorporate more woodworking into my days real soon.

Welcome to Lumberjocks! Good to see you here. I definitely understand about time away from the family. Life happens! At your stage of faily, indeed it will be tough. Maybe you could audit some of the classes in the back room?
